The way visitors plan their trips has changed.
Increasingly, and particularly among younger generations, people no longer rely on traditional websites to decide where to go and what to do.
Instead, they expect to find everything they need through apps: from inspiration and travel planning, to navigation, recommendations and booking decisions.
Visitors can discover the Island’s incredible attractions, historic gems, landmarks, and more.
You can list your next big event, so visitors know what is happening across the Island during their visit, and where.
We help visitors access the Island, cross the Solent, and navigate their way around while they are here.
Accommodation and restaurants are featured on the app, allowing your business to be discovered by visitors.
App users can plan adventures in nature, beaches, and coastal walks, from tranquil bays to cliff-top trails.
Wightguide has been developed to bring more visitors to the island and to ensure that they make the most of their visit, to the benefit of all businesses who list with us across the whole island. As the team at The Royal, we saw a gap in the marketing of the island – an app completely free to users.
To ensure it is understood as something we are doing for the island as a whole and not for our hotel, we set up a separate company – Wightguide Limited – still formed by the team you may know at The Royal. The connection is clear and we are happy to be open about it, but the app has been created to represent the whole Island, not any single business.
The Royal will be featured within Wightguide in exactly the same way as other hotels, restaurants, attractions and accommodation providers. There will be no preferential treatment. The platform is designed to give fair and balanced exposure to all businesses who list with us across the Island.
Wightguide is not intended to replace or compete with existing Island marketing activity.
The app is designed to complement and support existing destination marketing by offering visitors a practical, on-the-ground tool once they are considering, or already on the Island.
Our aim is to add value to the wider tourism ecosystem and help drive engagement with Island businesses.
To encourage early participation and ensure the app launches with a wide range of Island businesses, we are offering free listings for an initial 12-month period.
After this introductory phase, listings will be priced very competitively. At times when you want to highlight your business even more strongly, you will be able to do so for limited periods at a small additional charge. Using this feature will be entirely optional.
Our goal is to keep Wightguide accessible to businesses and events of all sizes, while creating a sustainable platform that continues to benefit the Island long term.
